Funding fee calculator

Perpetual futures charge funding while a position is open. Enter the position value, the funding rate and how long you plan to hold, and see what you pay or receive.

Size times the mark price, in your account currency. Leverage does not change it.

Per funding interval, as the exchange shows it. Use a minus sign for a negative rate.

Most Binance and Bybit contracts fund every 8 hours, some every 4 or every hour. Hyperliquid funds every hour.

This is an estimate at one rate. The real rate is set again every interval and the position value moves with the price. Counted in whole intervals, so you may pay one more or one fewer.

How it works

The formula

At each funding time the exchange moves money between the two sides of the market. The amount is your position value times the funding rate for that interval.

When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts. When it is negative, shorts pay longs. The calculator multiplies one payment by the number of funding times while you hold the position.

funding = position value × funding rate × number of funding times

Worked example

A long held for 3 days

You hold a long worth 10,000. The rate is 0.01% every 8 hours and you keep the position for 3 days, which is 9 funding times.

Each payment is 10,000 × 0.01% = 1.00, so you pay 9.00 in total. A rate of 0.01% every 8 hours is 10.95% a year on the position value.

On an exchange that funds every hour, the same rate shows as 0.00125% per hour. You pay 72 times 0.125, which is again 9.00.

FAQ

Questions

Who pays funding, and who receives it?

When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts. When it is negative, shorts pay longs. The money goes between traders and is not a fee the exchange keeps, which is why the result can be money you receive.

Does leverage change the funding I pay?

No. Funding is worked out on the position value, not on your margin. Leverage does make it a bigger share of your margin: at 10x, 10.95% a year on the position value is about 109.5% a year on the margin.

Why is my real funding different?

The rate is set again for every interval, from the gap between the perpetual price and the spot price, so it rarely stays the same for days. The position value also moves with the price. For a longer hold, use an average rate. The count can also be one more or one fewer, depending on whether you hold the position at the exact funding time.

Does Viktury include funding in my P&L?

Yes, where the exchange import includes funding payments, for example on Hyperliquid. Each payment is attached to the trade that was open at the time, so the trade's net P&L shows what funding cost you or paid you.
